March 17, 2008 — visit of colleagues from the Nagasaki University

A visit by professor Shunichi Yamashita and professor Sadanori Akita from the Nagasaki University, Japan, to Stem Cell Bank «Pokrovskiy» and the Saint Petersburg Medical Academy of Postgraduate Studies (MAPS) took place on March 17, 2008.  The Japanese colleagues took part in the conference at MAPS chaired by professor O.G. Khurtsilava, the Rector. Professor Yamashita, Director and Chairman of the Department of Molecular Medicine of the Nagasaki University, delivered a lecture on molecular genetic aspects in epidemiology of radiation-induced tumor growth as well as the work of the Global Strategic Center for Radiation Health Risk Control. 
Professor Akita from the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, Nagasaki University,  presented data on application of fibroblast growth factor-2 (basic fibroblast growth factor) in plastic surgery.  Dmitriy Bulgin (Stem Cell Bank «Pokrovskiy») presented clinical activities of the Bank.  The colleagues from Japan also visited Stem Cell Bank «Pokrovskiy» and its laboratory and discussed the perspectives for further collaboration.
